Whether you love or hate President-Elect Joe Biden, or don't care one way or another, isn’t it important to consider his mental health and acuity to hold the Office of President of the United States?
Recall the mainstream media’s almost obsessive preoccupation with President Donald Trump’s health- was he overly obese? Weight to height ratio, where are his medical records, can the White House physician be trusted, etc.
Now, today with Joe Biden there are no questions, no scrutiny, no concerns, for a man who repeatedly exhibits confusion, inability to complete a coherent sentence, much more a thought. “You know the thing... C'mon man...they’re not bad folks”

How many know that the resulting brain damage from a subarachnoid hemorrhage, as the blood breakdown products bathe the brain, are significant and create permanent damage, let alone the compression and damage due to the jet of blood from the rupture itself?.
Why has the media not asked for his medical records, list of medications, EEG, or at least an angiogram of his brain's blood vessels? Multi-aneurysm patients like Mr. Biden have a tendency to form new ones and are recommended to have an angiogram every 5 years; where is the report? Really, the NY Times couldn't do a piece on this? How about a CT scan to document what his brain looks like or verify he does not have hydrocephalus or a ventricular peritoneal shunt or seizure disorder? Where is the outrage?
The fact of the matter is the media conspiracy to elect Mr. Biden is unbelievable and wholly liable if he takes the oath of office on January 20, 2021, while overlooking these significant medical issues.
I mean, really, shouldn't there be some sort of medical prerequisite for the Office of President of the United States and all of the stress it induces?
Are we that desperate to install the first black female president? Shouldn't the first black female president be duly elected on her own merits rather than hiding behind a 78-year-old sub-arachnoid hemorrhage survivor?
Love him or hate him, you do have to admire Mr. Biden for overcoming all these issues in the last 38 years but this disqualifies him in my eyes to hold the nuclear codes. Hell, in most states, he couldn't even get a driver’s license without a letter from a neurologist saying he was seizure-free for a year.
Instead, we have almost elected him the leader of the free world and the keeper of the launch codes with no one knowing the truth, no one asking any health questions! Especially when he can’t remember whom he is running against or who his wife is.
Whether you are for Biden or against him, please be honest enough to spread the truth about his medical issues before he's sworn in as our next president with no one knowing the medical issues he suffers from.”

Dr. ccp, After a stroke my brother in law had aphasia. He was quite functional but couldn't come up with basic words like airport and hospital. On the phone he would tell my sister, I'm over her in front of that, not real helpful for location, but could still drive to places if he didn't have to come up with the words. This reminds me of that, but it did lead quickly to much greater deterioration.
As a Republican in fear of Harris, my story is, Biden is fine, no more deranged and demented than any other far Leftist.

What a career! After graduating 76th out of 85 in his class, he was first elected to the Senate in 1972, almost 50 years ago. Every Senator dreams of being President and Biden actively pursued that dream since 1987, almost 35 years ago. He served patiently as Obama's Vice President 8 years, then lost four more years deferring to Hillary. Now he is the elected 47th President of the United States, leader of the free world, most powerful man in the world.
It's sad that Joe isn't here with us to enjoy all this.

- My take. To us, they're all liberals and should all be on the same page, but since liberalism is all BS, there have to be different ideas about who gets to make it all up and how to carry it out. They have nearly absolute power with one party rule so there are bound to be power struggles. Harris appears certain to be President since Biden appears certain to be not running for reelection and she needs to run as the incumbent. She no doubt tests her power in front of "staff" [puppet master wannebes], but these people know they are the ones who picked her and believe she reports to them (behind the scenes).
An important shift occurred on the Left over the last few decades. I believe Rush L was the first to point it out. We used to call liberal media the 'willing accomplices of the Democrats' and the Left. That is now exactly backwards. The media-academia elite complex is the power center of the Left and calls the shots. The Democrat politicians are now the willing accomplices.
We can't see the formal power structure but it is represented in the room when the important decisions are made. Does it lead to Obama or does it lead to the people who controlled him? We don't really know. No doubt Kamala thinks she is already effectively in charge. Someone is telling her otherwise. We make or break you.

The price went up the minute the election result was announced, we all know because the alleged winner promised to do everything possible to destroy supply and drive up prices. Oil is a futures market and gasoline is priced to cover their replacement cost as prices continue to go up.
I disapprove of using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for the purpose of covering up bone headed policies instead of reversing them. The strategy of the reserve I assume is to help us through a real crisis like if an enemy (other than Biden) blew up our oil fields, pipelines or tankers.
This pain is by voter choice (if not election steal), so let voters experience all the pain until voters reverse course.
Same for the doubling of natural gas price used to heat most northern homes. We can burn wood and coal until our air looks like New Delhi or we can vote these assholes out at the first opportunity.
Using up the reserve is to decrease or eliminate our readiness for what may come next which is worse, like when Obama-Biden depleted our N95 stocks and never replenished them. 'Leave the country worse off than you found it' should be their campaign slogan.

The price went up the minute the election result was announced, we all know because the alleged winner promised to do everything possible to destroy supply and drive up prices. Oil is a futures market and gasoline is priced to cover their replacement cost as prices continue to go up.
I disapprove of using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for the purpose of covering up bone headed policies instead of reversing them. The strategy of the reserve I assume is to help us through a real crisis like if an enemy (other than Biden) blew up our oil fields, pipelines or tankers.
This pain is by voter choice (if not election steal), so let voters experience all the pain until voters reverse course.
Same for the doubling of natural gas price used to heat most northern homes. We can burn wood and coal until our air looks like New Delhi or we can vote these assholes out at the first opportunity.
Using up the reserve is to decrease or eliminate our readiness for what may come next which is worse, like when Obama-Biden depleted our N95 stocks and never replenished them. 'Leave the country worse off than you found it' should be their campaign slogan.

During Katrina refineries were shut down. The price mechanism allowed scarce supply to flow to it's most valuable use. Prices went up and came back down. No one went to a station and found no gas. The variable that stayed constant was oil company greed, aka trying to stay in business and make a return on investment.
I'm not aware of any refineries on Sanibel Island or inland from there.

Special counsel Robert Hur on Thursday released a 388-page report on President Biden’s retention of classified material, finding the president frequently showed limitations with his memory and recall.
While the report concluded no charges should be brought against the president, its language describing Biden, 81, is likely to be campaign fodder for Republicans who have repeatedly raised questions about the president’s ability to serve.
Some of the language came off looking like a gift to Trump’s presidential campaign.
In opting not to bring charges, Hur cited the shortage of evidence, but also how Biden would present himself to a jury.
“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” Hur wrote.
“Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”
The report on more than one occasion refers to Biden struggling to remember things when he spoke to a ghostwriter for his memoir, as well as when he was speaking to investigators.
Hur cited Biden’s 2017 conversations with ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer, which Hur described as “painfully slow, with Mr. Biden struggling to remember events and straining at times to read and relay his own notebook entries.”
“In his interview with our office, Mr. Biden's memory was worse,” Hur wrote.
A pro-Trump super PAC quickly made use of the report.
“If you're too senile to stand trial, then you're too senile to be president. Joe Biden is unfit to lead this nation,” Alex Pfeiffer, communications director for the pro-Trump super PAC Make America Great Again Inc., said in a statement.
Hur’s report is likely to set off a fury with Biden supporters. Democratic strategist Paul Begala, speaking Thursday afternoon on CNN, described some of the remarks as cheap shots.Biden’s personal and White House lawyers wrote a letter to Hur on Monday upon the conclusion of the investigation arguing the special counsel’s treatment of the president was unfair and called the repeated references to his memory “gratuitous.”
“It is one thing to observe President Biden's memory as being ‘significantly limited’ on certain subjects. It is quite another to use the more sweeping and highly prejudicial language employed later in the report,” White House special counsel Richard Sauber and personal attorney Bob Bauer wrote to Hur.
“This language is not supported by the facts, nor is it appropriately used by a federal prosecutor in this context,” they added. “We request that you revisit your descriptions of President Biden's memory and revise them so that they are stated in a manner that is within the bounds of your expertise and remit.”
Biden’s personal attorney, Bob Bauer, issued a statement Thursday that chastised Hur and his team for “investigative excess” and complained that the special counsel had overstepped with its lengthy report.
Bauer did not directly bring up the references to Biden’s memory, but it was clear he was taking umbrage with the nature of parts of the report.
“Very little in this opus adds to a clear, succinctly stated understanding of a straightforward conclusion: no misconduct occurred, no charges are warranted,” Bauer said in a statement.
“Throughout this process, a guiding principle has been to protect the integrity and independence of this investigation,” Bauer added. “Based on the facts and the law, the Special Counsel in this case had no choice but to find that criminal charges were not warranted. He had other choices, which should have been guided by the Department’s rules, policies, and practices, and he made the wrong ones.”
The president’s age has clouded discussions over the presidential race, particularly with Trump, 77, expected to be the GOP nominee. Polls have repeatedly shown voters have concerns about Biden’s age. Other surveys have suggested a large number of Americans are unhappy with the choice of Biden and Trump.
GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who is still in the Republican race, has repeatedly pointed to the need for a new generation of leaders in an effort to give her own campaign new life. Trump trounced Haley in the opening contests of the GOP primary.
The report could also spark real worries among Democrats that they could lose the White House if voters fear Biden’s ability to act as president, a notion Biden’s team has repeatedly pushed back upon. Biden is not facing meaningful opposition in his own primary, though long-shot candidate Dean Phillips, a House member from Minnesota, has sought to make his age an issue.
The special counsel at one point in the report wrote that Biden “did not remember when he was vice president,” forgetting when his term ended, and in another instance forgetting when his term began. Hur reported Biden did not remember when his son Beau had died, and his memory “appeared hazy” when speaking about a debate over Afghanistan that was critical to his memoirs.
“In a case where the government must prove that Mr. Biden knew he had possession of the classified Afghanistan documents after the vice presidency and chose to keep those documents, knowing he was violating the law, we expect that at trial, his attorneys would emphasize these limitations in his recall,” Hur wrote.
Biden said in a statement emphasized his own stamina, and noted that he “cooperated completely, threw up no roadblocks, and sought no delays” in Hur’s investigation.
“In fact, I was so determined to give the Special Counsel what they needed that I went forward with five hours of in-person interviews over two days on October 8th and 9th of last year, even though Israel had just been attacked on October 7th and I was in the middle of handling an international crisis,” he said.
Biden would be 86 at the end of a potential second term. The president has said it is fair for voters to consider his age, but he and his team have stressed that he should be judged on his record of achievements while in office.
Twice this week Biden has confused the names of European leaders he met with at a Group of Seven (G-7) Summit early in his presidency.
An NBC News poll published this week found 76 percent of voters, including 54 percent of Democrats, said they had major or moderate concerns when asked whether Biden, 81, has “the necessary mental and physical health to be president for a second term.”

I’m intentionally misfiling this as, on its face, it is about dotty Uncle Joe’s brain bubbles. I think if you parse the piece more deeply though, you’ll see it’s intent in fact is to misdirect and suck oxygen out of fitness to serve question and apply it instead to Garland (who has to understand on some level that his reputation will be henceforth tarnished by all the shade the DOJ has thrown Joe and all his familia partners in crime) with a wistful side of “if only Merrick had accelerated Trump’s persecution we wouldn’t be in this fix” wild goose.

Joe Biden has told aides and outside advisers that Attorney General Merrick Garland did not do enough to rein in a special counsel report stating that the president had diminished mental faculties, according to two people close to the president, as White House frustration with the head of the Justice Department grows.
The report from special counsel Robert Hur ultimately cleared Biden of any charges stemming from his handling of classified documents that were found at Biden’s think tank and his home. But Hur’s explanation for not bringing charges — that Biden would have persuaded the jury that he was a forgetful old man — upended the presidential campaign and infuriated the White House.
Biden and his closest advisers believe Hur went well beyond his purview and was gratuitous and misleading in his descriptions, according to those two people, who were granted anonymity to speak freely. And they put part of the blame on Garland, who they say should have demanded edits to Hur’s report, including around the descriptions of Biden’s faltering memory.
In White House meetings, aides have questioned why Garland felt the need to appoint a special counsel in the first place, though Biden has publicly said he supported the decision.
While Biden himself has not weighed in on Garland’s future, most of the president’s senior advisers do not believe that the attorney general would remain in his post for a possible second term, according to the two people.
“This has been building for a while,” said one of those people. “No one is happy”
Frustration within the White House at Garland has been growing steadily.
Last year, Biden privately denounced how long the probe into his son was taking, telling aides and outside allies that he believed the stress could send Hunter Biden spiraling back into addiction, according to the same two people. And the elder Biden, the people said, told those confidants that Garland should not have eventually empowered a special counsel to look into his son, believing that he again was caving to outside pressure.
In recent weeks, President Biden has grumbled to aides and advisers that had Garland moved sooner in his investigation into former President Donald Trump’s election interference, a trial may already be underway or even have concluded, according to two people granted anonymity to discuss private matters. That trial still could take place before the election and much of the delay is owed not to Garland but to deliberate resistance put up by the former president and his team.
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice declined to comment. But one former senior Justice Department official noted that some of the frustrations being directed at Garland are better directed toward the White House. The president’s team had the option to exert executive privilege over elements of Hur’s report but declined to do so. And had Garland made edits to the report, he would have had to explain those redactions to Congress.
Beyond that, Garland felt the need to appoint a special counsel in the classified documents case in part because the president’s team bungled when the first documents were discovered.
“The way in which the White House story kept changing at the outset made it much more difficult for the Justice Department to resist having a special counsel,” said the former official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Had there been a very clear story at the beginning, it would have been easier.”

Biden picked Garland as his attorney general with the stated desire to restore a semblance of independence at the Department of Justice that he and others believed was lost under Donald Trump. He announced the nomination the day after the Jan. 6 attacks at the Capital — a backdrop that Biden offered up as proof that someone of Garland’s stature and temperament was needed in the post.
“Your loyalty is not to me,” Biden said. “You won’t work for me. You are not the president or the vice president’s lawyer.”
Democrats close to Biden fear Garland has become too consumed by that instruction to appear impartial.
“What Democrats do is they bend over backwards not to look partisan, and then they end up hiring people that are partisan but in the other direction,” said a Biden donor, granted anonymity to speak freely about the top law enforcement official in the country. “There’s no question in my mind that the villain here is Merrick Garland.”
But others say Garland has done a commendable job balancing out extremely thorny legal and political matters while maintaining the DOJ’s credibility.
“If you look at each one of these decisions, they are very thoughtful. They are not reflexively ducking responsibility as some would suggest. Rather, they are looking at what the department is supposed to do in any given circumstance,” said Jamie Gorelick, a former United States Deputy Attorney General. “I understand the cumulative impact [but] you have to play out what the alternatives are.”

With the Trump probe already in hands of a special counsel, Garland not appointing a special counsel over the classified Biden documents and simply closing the investigation himself “would not have been credible to the country,” she said.
Justice Department officials say Garland has delivered on a number of fronts — many of them closely identified with Biden or his priorities. Soon after arriving, he announced reorganizations and new initiatives aimed at cracking down on a wave of violent crime that beset many cities in the wake of the pandemic. There are signs those efforts are bearing fruit.
Garland and his deputies have also reinvigorated federal law enforcement in areas Republican administrations often downplay: fighting to preserve abortion access in the wake of the Dobbs Supreme Court decision, aggressively investigating claims of civil rights violations by police, and filing a flurry of often successful cases opposing mergers and alleged monopolistic practices.
But it has been his handling of the overtly political cases that has prompted Democratic agitation. And chief among those decisions now is his selection of Hur, a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney, to oversee the classified documents case.
“I had refused to criticize him but appointing Hur, who is obviously a Republican tool and who issued what I think is an irresponsible report which violates DOJ standards, was a mistake,” said Robert Shrum, a longtime consultant in the Democratic Party. “I think Garland will be criticized by historians. We’ve had some terrific attorneys general and some not so good attorneys general. And I think he’s going to rank in the not so good.”
Biden, for his part, has kept his frustrations with Garland private, even after publicly admonishing Hur in a press conference on Thursday for saying he couldn’t remember the year his son Beau died. On Friday, the White House distributed a list of quotes critical of Hur that did not mention Garland. Senate Democrats, questioned about Garland on Friday, declined to weigh in on his tenure.
“I’m not gonna get into criticizing the attorney general at all,” Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) told POLITICO.
Asked on Friday whether the president had confidence in Garland, Ian Sams, a White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, noted Biden’s comments from the day before saying he supported the appointment of a special counsel.
But even as the frictions between the White House and DOJ remain relatively contained, outside Democrats are now openly airing their disapproval with Garland’s conduct, and their fears that his selection as attorney general may end up being fatal for Biden.
“Garland is far and away Biden’s worst appointee by an order of magnitude,” Robert Kuttner, co-founder of the liberal American Prospect. “And we all pay the price. If Biden goes down the drain because Garland has mishandled the investigation of Trump and gave Republicans a weapon … then the country pays the price. It’s not just that Biden gets punished for the stupidity of appointing Garland.”

Cognitive testing can be done anytime, does NOT require ANY criteria to be met.
Usually, we would do it if there is any question from the patient or other caretaker or designated family member about the patient's cognitive status.

One indication is that his Presidency does NOT have the agenda of the moderate Senator a lot of people thought they were voting for.

Democrats Still Stuck With Biden
Voters don’t think much of the president but also remain wary of the obvious replacement.
The bad news for the White House is that according to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Joe Biden remains just as unpopular as he was before giving his State of the Union address. The worse news for Democrats is that there’s not much they can do about it.
This column will offer the usual caveat that polling is not an exact science if it’s even a science. But assume a wide margin for error and this electorate is still very unhappy with the incumbent. This week the Economist/YouGov poll finds that 58% of registered voters don’t want Mr. Biden to run again this fall, compared to just 31% who do.
Even among Democrats the percentage who want Mr. Biden running again is just 50%—though he has recently locked up the nomination to represent their party this fall.
A full 63% of registered voters regard him as a weak leader, compared to the 37% who view him as a strong one.
In another reading that can’t be good for Mr. Biden, when asked if they “feel that things in this country these days” are “under control” or “out of control,” only 15% of registered voters say “under control” while 70% say they feel that things in this country are “out of control.” Looks like an overwhelming endorsement of the thesis advanced by this column’s most celebrated alumnus: Mr. Biden has failed to fulfill the central premise and promise of his 2020 campaign—a return to normal politics.
Meanwhile there’s more discouraging news for the donkeys in the latest Harvard/Harris survey, which finds that most voters doubt Joe Biden’s mental fitness to serve another term as president and believe he’s showing that he’s too old for the job. But they also aren’t eager to embrace the obvious alternative. Harvard/Harris asked the following question:
If Joe Biden decided to drop out at the Democratic convention in August, do you view Kamala Harris as the default replacement or would you want an open contest at the convention among the delegates?
Only 37% of respondents say the vice president should be the default selection while 63% would want an open contest. Republicans overwhelmingly favor an open contest, so perhaps they’re just rooting for uncontrolled division in the rival party. But 70% of independents also favor an open contest.
As for the Democrats, 60% think Ms. Harris should be next in line while 40% would want the contest thrown open. This is a tough reading for any Democratic insiders trying to conceive of a way to finesse Mr. Biden into retirement this summer. The 60% base of party support shows how difficult it would be to jettison Ms. Harris. But the 40% who want an open competition are numerous enough to spark a vigorous summer debate, especially as Democrats contemplate how little appetite there is for a Harris candidacy outside their party.
So the Democrats remain stuck with a presidential nominee whose own Justice Department’s special counsel decided was too forgetful to prosecute despite voluminous evidence of willful law-breaking. So much for a return to normalcy!
Of course across all parties there’s also the question of how much U.S. voters really want normal politicians. The large majority who would prefer an open competition to choose a Biden successor instead of accepting the sitting vice president suggests that there’s still a significant anti-establishment streak among U.S. voters.
Chris Megerian’s report for the Associated Press underlines how different Mr. Biden’s relationship to his party is compared to Donald Trump’s relationship with his:

Now Imagine How Unpopular Biden Will Be in 2054
Perhaps those of us in the media business spend too much time examining and reporting on polling results, which are merely imperfect and ephemeral expressions of opinion. But rest assured that Joe Biden is not one of those unpopular presidents who will become more admired in the fullness of time. A rare president who does not even pretend to care about runaway federal spending, Mr. Biden took office facing a mammoth fiscal problem and has worked diligently to ensure that his successors will have to tackle something far worse. The Congressional Budget Office recently updated its long-term budget forecast:
The deficit increases significantly in relation to gross domestic product (GDP) over the next 30 years… Debt held by the public, boosted by the large deficits, reaches its highest level ever in 2029 (measured as a percentage of GDP) and then continues to grow, reaching 166 percent of GDP in 2054 and remaining on track to increase thereafter. That mounting debt would slow economic growth, push up interest payments to foreign holders of U.S. debt, and pose significant risks to the fiscal and economic outlook; it could also cause lawmakers to feel more constrained in their policy choices.
You can say that again. And they won’t look back with fondness at the responsible official who felt so weirdly unconstrained by any notion of fiscal soundness.

And it may be that with millions of people taking Prilosec and millions being diagnosed with cognitive decline, the personality types — i.e. anxious personality types—who'll get themselves tested for the decline are also the types who'll take antacids. It beats me--but Vox doesn't totally knock down the Prilosec/dementia connection. Instead, it urges people to talk with their doctors. When I told my doctor I wanted to quit Prilosec, he didn't try to argue me out of it. He suggested I switch back to Pepcid. I said, "Well, if the President takes it, how bad could it be?"
2. Indeed, President Biden has been on a "regimen of Pepcid,"apparently for a while. (It was recently supplemented by another antacid,.). Pepcid, unlike Prilosec, is not a "proton pump inhibitor" or PPI, the type implicated in the dementia study. It reduces acid via a different mechanism, known as H2RA -- which blocks the histamine receptors that trigger acid. Sounded good to me.
3. Almost two years into Biden’s term, the Alzheimer’s Association published a another credible study (one I’d missed) suggesting that, indeed, Pepcid is not as bad, dementia-wise, as Prilosec. It’s worse! At least it's worse for people who already have a mild case of cognitive decline—resulting in those people developing full blown dementia faster. "[A]mong people with [mild cognitive impairment, or MCI], H2RA [Pepcid] users had earlier progression to dementia over 5 years compared to PPI users.” Specifically, “H2RA use was associated with a 40.2% higher dementia risk, specifically for people with MCI.” And: “[T]aken with the present results, the evidence in toto suggests that H2RAs rather than PPIs might be associated with dementia risk. “
4. Many people think President Biden has a mild case of cognitive decline. We can argue about it—he did not take a cognitive test as part of his recent physical.** Some who’ve negotiated with him (e.g. Kevin McCarthy) say he’s all there. But enough people who’ve observed him say he’s gone downhill to establish it as a distinct possibility.
Cognitive decline is not, apparently, like getting the bubonic plague (either you have the plague or you don’t).** It’s more a spectrum, or, if you prefer, a slippery slope. The issue is not just where Biden is now but where he’ll be in 2026 or in 2029, when his second term would end.
And he’s taking a drug that seems as if it’s likely to make any decline down that slope go faster.
Yikes.
I'm not “just askin' questions”! Or “raising concerns.” I'm saying "Yikes!"
Maybe some conscientious reporters could ask some non-politicized neurologists (if there are any) about this risk.
P.S.: The other anti-reflux drug Biden's now on is Nexium, which is a proton pump inhibitor, like ... Prilosec. It’s not as if, for both types of antacid, there’s not a plausible story for how they could promote dementia. They both have “anti-cholinergic”effects, meaning they block acetylcholin, which is a neurotransmitter. So we’re in the territory of screwing around with the nervous system.
Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. I may have missed things in these studies (I don’t know about “e-values” and confounders.) That’s why I suggest bringing in some experts who wouldn’t be gunning for headlines or subject to career retaliation.
