Revolutions, they go after the traditions and institutions, like family, church, schools, media, now sports.

I'd like to see a revival of town level minor league baseball, with no politics.

At my university, in my sport, they ended men's tennis because of federal law, title ix, and the pursuit of football, of which they have been non-competitive for 60 years. For every football scholarship' given, they need to match with a woman in sports. Ironically , the women full ride scholarships brings in players from all over the world, keeping the local girls off the team, at a state supported university.

Tennis costs them next to nothing and the athletes consistently have the highest GPA of any sport. No matter.  They prefer the money sports where the athletes rarely graduate.

I need to get my anger level down before I arm and learn to shoot.

In tennis we call a 90 mph fastball ... a ladies second serve.    ))

Of course there are so many differences, the racquet, the service box and playing it off the bounce, but you still have to train your eyes to track it the whole way.

you are really able to appreciate how fast the ball is hit how fast the players move on the court and reaction time better et.

I would imagine if I was on the court trying to receive a professional's serve I would probably have a hard time seeing it let alone actually make contact and return it in bounds.

I think we lost our aging athlete topic to the breakup with Martial Arts.

Article linked below makes a couple of points while commenting on the current US Open.

I will add this first point they missed, tennis is(was) the number one GPA sport at every university with a team.  In spite of that, men's NCAA Division I tennis is being cancelled across the country in compliance with US Federal "Title IX" laws.  Go figure.

Great sport that many can play up in age.
More fun in my view than golf which to me is a total bore.\

Pete Rose died Monday, 35 years after he signed an agreement I wrote that banned him from baseball for life. At the time he neither admitted nor denied gambling on the game he loved. Only much later did he come clean.

As usual in baseball, his opponents defined him best. The crafty lefty Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford gave him his nickname—“Charlie Hustle”—because Rose had the habit of sprinting in top gear to first base even after being walked. That was the way Rose played the game. He only had one gear.

That was also the way he lived his life. Everything was a battle and he had opponents in every corner. In most battles he fought, there were no rules. He simply bowled over every opponent, including the unfortunate catcher Ray Fosse, who was never the same player after Rose plowed into him at home plate during the 1970 All-Star Game.

Major League Baseball finally confronted Rose about his gambling in 1989. The meeting took place in the office of Peter Ueberroth, who was about to retire as commissioner. He’d invited his successor, Bart Giamatti, and me to attend.

I asked Rose directly whether he had ever bet on baseball. I warned him his answer was vitally important—to him and to baseball. Rose’s answer: “I am not stupid. I never bet on baseball. I bet on everything else. Never baseball.”

Afterward, Rose told a Sports Illustrated writer that “the crippled guy” had asked all the questions. (An accident in my college days forced me to use crutches.) In fact my question led to false denial that turned out to be the biggest mistake Rose ever made. He died regretting that mistake.

Rose may someday be posthumously reinstated and elected to the Hall of Fame. I choose to remember him as Charlie Hustle. His sense of honor and duty were outweighed by his worship of acclaim and money. His main achievement—becoming baseball’s all-time hit leader—was in large measure due to his longevity. His lifetime batting lags behind truly great hitters like Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby. His record may someday be broken. Most records are.

I ignore the tragedy of Pete Rose. He was overmatched by reality away from baseball. On hustle, never.

I don't think there is anyone even close to Pete's record today.
If the young Bobby Witt can reproduce this season around 20 x he might come close.

I remember his also kicking Bud Harrelson's ass in a game against the Mets as well as smashing into Ray Fosse like a linebacker.  He was tough as nails.   

Should he be in the hall?  I don't know.  I sort of lean towards the rules are the rules.
