CA High Speed Rail Chickens Coming Home to Roost?
« Reply #1050 on: February 20, 2025, 02:22:36 PM »
2nd post:

@KevinKileyCA

Today I joined U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy to announce an investigation into CA High-Speed Rail, which could claw back $4.3 billion in federal funds. Amusingly, a few protestors showed up in support of the boondoggle.

The High-Speed Rail disaster is the worst public infrastructure failure in U.S. history. It is a blight on our landscape and an embarrassment to our state.   It is a symbol for the decline of modern California, showcasing political ineptitude on an epic scale.

It exemplifies the failures of transparency and accountability, of governance and planning, of vision and leadership, of competence and common sense that have turned the greatest state in the country into the most popular state to leave.

It represents the disregard for taxpayer dollars, for property rights, for democratic accountability, for economic reality, that have caused our beautiful state to lead the nation in all the wrong ways.

And it highlights the small-mindedness of our politicians, who think of themselves as visionaries for plowing ahead with a 20th century project that won’t be complete until the 22nd century, at best.

The failure of High-Speed Rail represents all that has gone wrong in modern California. And that is precisely why this is such a hopeful day; the end of this ill-fated project will serve as a new beginning.

We are turning the page in California. A coalition for common sense is ascendant.

California economy:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_California

What I find interesting is this graph:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_California#/media/File:California_GDP_by_sector_2017.png

Is this not odd ? the graph shows the government is a larger part of the economy then the tech /information sector.   Why is *government* included in the economy .  What does government produce?

Great point. It's not by accident that happens.

Oxymoron like 'big government conservative', Governor Polis is a "libertarian Democrat"? In what universe??

(Doug) In a year where my 150 year old house in the mountains only got more dilapidated, the 'tax value' went up 500%.

It wouldn't have anything to do with unitary Democrat supermajority rule in Denver, would it?

From " third in the nation for personal income growth" to 39th. In two terms.  Now he is offered as the Democrat 'moderate' who could save do that for the entire nation!

This is what Democrat Socialists do, take prosperity that someone else built and squander it to nothing.

Citing budget shortfalls, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that California would delay expanding Medi-Cal to more undocumented adults and will charge existing recipients with “unsatisfactory immigration status” a $100 monthly fee starting in 2027.

Jeepers, just in time for the terminal phases of the 2028 election year. A coinkydance, no doubt.

Newsom the Centrist in Waiting?

Yep, just in time for 2028 Nancy’s boy wonder and nephew is setting himself up as a Bill Clinton style centrist. Can triangulation and blue dresses be far behind?

Right. And Kamala suddenly supported fracking. I don't see how you hide the record of being Governor for two terms of California.

If you can't say, I will do for America what I did for California, then don't run.  MHO.

When it comes to the "Progressive" left it seems to me their adherants fall into one of two broad categories:

• Fellow Travelers, meaning folks that understand full well that outright lies, full on bullying, abject misappropriation of resources, et al are baked into the core of the "Progressive" wing of the Democratic Party's response to EVERYTHING and are perfectly okay with that. Most these folks are seeking to end inconvienent constitutional protections and overthrow the existing order in favor of something they'd call "socialism," but that will devolve into full up communism, with their membership in the resulting braintrust/power structure all but assured, which also makes them candidates for the second category:

• Idiots. People that actually believed Biden was at the top of his game, that little could be done to slow down the import of aliens entering the country illegally, that men can become women and vice versa via sundry symantic strokes, that NGOs are idealistic rather than resource hording and redistribution structures, that huge deficits are no big deal, and that anyone who doesn't believe all the above and all sorts of other unadultrated fictions are Eeeevull Republicans that need to be segregated in reeducation camps for reasons to be determined by their party's leaders.

If anyone can think of another category I'd like to hear it, but as best I can tell everyone I've dealt with in the "Progressive" camp falls into to one of those categories, and often both.
