I had gone down to Baltimore 2.5 hr drive few times past 2 yrs for conventions.
Driving to the convention center and once to Hopkins for infectious disease conference.
One section I had to drive through did look a bit like some poor areas in Rio.
People were helpful when I had to ask for directions.

I don't have GPS - I don't want to be followed by music thieves.

It is no what Trump means when he makes his tweets.  It is how he says it.

I've been railing for a long time about America's inner city, see urban issues thread.  The President has his own indelicate way of putting things but kudos to him for drawing attention to what most people know but don't see.

Like Minneapolis, Baltimore has the best there is with companies and institutions like T. Rowe Price and Johns Hopkins, and they have the worst with what Bernie Sanders called a third world country.

The causes and solutions are the heart of the differences in politics in this country.  Democrats run these places and keep proposing more of the same.  Take what caused these problems and double, quadruple and octuple down on those strategies.  If it involves welfare, free sh*t anything else that undermines work ethic and free enterprise, Democrats are for it.  What makes conditions worse makes demand for their political positions greater.  Republicans on the other hand believe in these people.  They believe that even people of the inner city and 'people of color' are capable of lifting themselves up in a national rising tide with hard work, good schools, strong families, individual freedom and individual responsibility.

The more we dive into the facts, the more they lose.  Trump policies took the black and Hispanic unemployment rates to record lows - without targeting race, color or congressional district, while Democratic policies make things worse everywhere from west Baltimore to Venezuela.

If this is the fight, let's engage.

WHAT IF TRUMP TWEETED THIS ! INSTEAD OF CALLING BALTIMORE A RAT INFESTED (SHITHOLE)
NOW THAT WOULD "F" the LEFT more than giving them headline ammo for the free shit crowd!

IT is not what Trump implies it is HOW he blurts it out in impulsive anger that is so "unpresidential " (if you will)

1) When I did a seminar in Baltimore area a few years back the big local story was about a black prison gang running the prison-- including its leader fathering children with women corrections officers!

2) Remember what the black community and the local power structure revealed about themselves in the riots over the case wherein a black drug dealer died in police custody

Let's look up the Black Guerilla Family running the prison/jail in Baltimore.  Some amazing stuff will be found.

Worthy of reading and studying, I'm not liking or necessarily agreeing with this but he makes a point backed up with data and examples.

The more that entrepreneur capitalism succeeds, the more people think we can turn away from it and toward socialism to take care of those left behind - and give them more of the system that left them behind.

WE HAVE A MESSAGING PROBLEM WITH THESE VOTERS.  Maybe Trump can overcome that where almost no other Republican has.

" .WE HAVE A MESSAGING PROBLEM WITH THESE VOTERS"

Yes and its called the Main Stream Media
which attacks Trump and Republicans 24 /7 from every conceivable angle real or imagined

and now with the trade war with China we will have the WSJ and its hordes bashing Trump as well

does anyone have a better way to take on the Red Chinese?

I expect we will lose because Americans will not have the resolve to see this through.
I would love to be wrong.
This is not self inflicted
this is fighting the Red Chinese back.

"Yes [messaging problem] and its called the Main Stream Media ..."

And we allow them to still be the "mainstream media" which they are not and answer back with only one voice, Trump's twitter feed.

"does anyone have a better way to take on the Red Chinese?"

As you allude, partner up with the Democrats on this.  Russia and China should be pulling us together, not splitting the country and the resolve.

I have not followed all the questions and answers of the debates but don't Democrats have to admit that we break down these barriers with the Chinese ONLY if we pull together as a nation under what happens to be the Trump strategy?  Can't a Democrat say, 'Trump is right in this one case, I will finish what he started', and still win the Presidency?

"Our differences end at the water's edge."  My God is that an outdated phrase!

"Texas in play?"

It sure is :

https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/08/house-republican-retirements-suburban-districts-battlegrounds/

but wait .  I thought all those republicans fleeing California to Texas due to high taxes should be making Repubs stronger ?

what gives.  Can't be millions of immigrants who tend to vote Dem could it?
Nah

of course abortion and guns may sway the suburban gals too I suppose

of course Trumps personality does not help

Being averse to paying taxes themselves does not make them Republicans.  The immigrants seeking freedom don't all vote for it either.

True but if Dems are leaving Cal for Tex then that does not explain why Republicans are vanishing off the face of state government there.

Though it could explain the bluing of Texas I suppose .

"immigrants seeking freedom don't all vote for it either"

some of the foreign born doctors I worked with are Repubs but there is not doubt some do not appreciate what they perceive as insults from Donald.
I could not convince them otherwise .

https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/09/joe-biden-unfit-for-presidency/

Is it possible to run for President with a slogan "I will never lie to you"?

Can anyone imagine someone running with this statement?

Is is even possible?

Is it even realistic?

Is it even foolish?

My father was the most honest person I ever knew.

Was he a fool?

I question my own values.

I watch all these sleaze balls in the music industry just making up stories on Katherine's stolen lyrics .
All the people around us who excepted bribes from friends relatives neighbors work men and many more .
They all lied to us , the few police who tried to help us .

I just don't know when even  the semblance of trying to be honest is not something to admire but to laugh at.

My father did not grow up rich ,  his father worked as laborer for Esso gas all his life.
But he certainly did not grow up street wise.
Neither did I .  But I learned later in life the hard way.

I agree with Kevin Williamson more than I ever have with anything he has ever written.
But is it all rowing merrily merrily forever chasing a dream?

Honesty is rewarded in "high trust" societies. We are rapidly devolving into a low trust society.

even the former FBi director lies like any common street criminal

and For GOD'S SAKES McCabe being brought on CNN , rewarded for criminal behavior while at the FBI , being payed to speak to us about the recent shooting .

Only because of his politics..........

There were some Presidents I can  generally call honest (as far as I know). - Eisenhower, Carter ,  Reagan , HW Bush , and despite what the political opposition says about W . with regards to WMD in Iraq - I can say him.

Politics, Tying Dems To Socialism Sways Suburban Women
« Reply #1331 on: September 09, 2019, 08:12:45 AM »
The nice part of this strategy is that Democrats are doing the work.

https://thefederalist.com/2019/09/05/rnc-chief-tying-dems-to-socialism-is-swaying-suburban-women/

[tying Democrats to socialism is working to win back college-educated suburban women] "this is something that we are seeing that they do not like.”  “Where the left is going — open borders, no rule of law, health care for undocumented immigrants — these are things that when you come down to the binary choice, maybe they say, ‘Okay, I don’t like this about what’s happening right now, but here’s what’s coming my way. And this means poverty. This means a government takeover of my private health care plan, maybe losing my private health care plan. I like my doctor, I like my pediatrician, I don’t want the government taking those things away.'”
------------------------------

[Doug] In 2018 Democrats won suburban districts by running moderates and fake moderates under the banner that all politics is local.  In the Presidential year coming up, Democrats are not running moderates at the top and local candidates will have to endorse or separate themselves from these policies.  The presidential fornt runners are admitted socialists along with candidates whose policies are indistinguishable from socialism.  As the race sits now, Dems have the aging gaffe machine followed by a socialist and an anti-capitalist.  For Biden to win the nomination he will have to commit to socialist, anti-free enterprise policies to beat the challenge from his left.

People who say they disapprove of Trump may be one his best constituencies.

We would already be in the middle of our "cultural revolution" right now if it were not for the well armed TradAms. This is why the left is now pushing so hard for gun confiscation. Can't terrorize and murder with impunity if your intended victims can shoot back.

The editorial might have mentioned that the Dem governor in LA was pro-gun and pro-life.

GOP Defeat in the Deep South
Surging Democratic turnout racks up another Trump-era win.
By The Editorial Board
Nov. 17, 2019 6:35 pm ET

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards speaks in Baton Rouge, Nov. 16. PHOTO: MATTHEW HINTON/ASSOCIATED PRESS
As the 2020 election year approaches, Republicans are on a losing streak. The latest defeat came Saturday in Louisiana when Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards held off GOP challenger Eddie Rispone to win re-election despite President Trump’s repeated visits on Mr. Rispone’s behalf.

Incumbents are typically hard to beat in good economic times, though the GOP managed that feat earlier this month in Kentucky. One common feature in both states was enormous voter turnout for an off-year election. Mr. Edwards won with 51% of the vote, or about 40,000 votes, but increased his vote total by 127,609 over 2015. Mr. Rispone gained 228,199 more votes than the GOP candidate in 2015 but still lost.

The difference came in Orleans and East Baton Rouge parishes, where Mr. Edwards rolled up margins of nearly 102,000 and 51,000, respectively. That compares to 69,000 and 42,000 in 2015. This repeats a common pattern since President Trump took office.

Even when GOP candidates exceed turnout expectations, they often lose because Democratic turnout surges too. Louisiana isn’t a national bellwether, but the GOP’s troubles in cities and suburbs even in the deep South signal danger for the party in 2020.

"The editorial might have mentioned that the Dem governor in LA was pro-gun and pro-life."

Good point!  A Democrat runs as a Republican and wins and that shows Republican weakness?  The Kentucky and Louisiana Gov races might have national implications if the national Dem party was to nominate a pro-gun and pro-life Democrat.

Hell will freeze over before that happens.

The other aspect of it is that election of these conservative Democrats to the high office of governorships does nothing to deepen the national Democratic bench if these people are systematically excluded from national service.  Under current rules they can't even speak at their convention.
