When I was a boy, we skiied frequently at Mount Mansfield (Stowe, VT).  On a clear day we could see Mount Washington.  It was spoken of with fear and respect.  This article explains why,

I suspect a quid pro quo with Murkowski of Alaska may have had something to do with it, plus a bit of preemption for 2020.
