Harvard Harris Poll says Democrats currently have 32% approval. That's roughly in line with 75% of Democrats thinking what went wrong was an accident.

We can argue and persuade perhaps a few more to understand what we understand but in politics it may be more important to lock in the other 68% instead of fighting for the remaining 32%.

Paradoxically, as the left shrinks in size, loses its centrists, it becomes more radical.

They can't figure out to get off of the 20% side of an 80/20 issue.

Their only hope is the same thing that brought Republicans back to power, opposition overreach.

I read posts of anywhere from 8 million up to 73 million

Here is Forbes in '19:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/michelatindera/2019/08/20/how-elizabeth-warren-built-a-12-million-fortune/

Odd, suddenly when I search what comes up today at the top of the list is $8 mill.  Funny that was not there in my search a few days ago.

They think *they* can dumb us down. [me]: Not a chance.  Funny how the order on a search list can change in a day isn't it.

  - Funny that with both those examples, not likely to happen, we would benefit just as much if they did it from their home countries.

Same logic. It only takes one great one to make the whole 21 million worth it. Or only took 19 hijackers or one covid visitor to tear the whole country down.  Much more likely to happen. Only one rapist to destroy a daughter's life. Only one gang to  destroy a city. Only one cartel carrying amfentanyl to kill 100,000 youth per year.

The who will pick our fruit argument doesn't cut it either. Or who will re- roof our homes.

None of that Justifies ANYONE coming in unvetted.

Talk about insincere, the people who brought us deals with Iran and plane loads of cash to the Mullahs, the world’s number one state sponsor of terror, tell us we should call Putin a madman in every sentence while we invite him to the negotiating table.

Geniuses. It makes no sense they are out of power.

When they go on CNN with 50k viewers in a country of 340 million, do they even know they are out of power?

Cognitive Dissonance of the Left, trying to disrupt the disruptor
« Reply #2262 on: March 05, 2025, 07:22:14 AM »
Trump said, "This is my fifth such speech to Congress, and once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud, nothing I can do.

"I could find a cure to the most devastating disease, a disease that would wipe out entire nations or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history, or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded. And these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements. They won't do it, no matter what -- five times I've been up here, it's very sad, and it just shouldn't be this way," he continued.

"So Democrats sitting before me for just this one night, why not join us in celebrating so many incredible wins for America, for the good of our nation, let's work together and let's truly make America great again."

https://justthenews.com/government/congress/trumps-big-speech-proves-be-optics-nightmare-democrats

(Doug). Majority of the Democrats didn't applaud the 13-year-old cancer survivor or the surviving family of the brave Secret Service man. They had their placards pre-printed lies, false, before they had heard anything he said. Last time, Nancy Pelosi tore up the speech. This time, she wasn't sitting in the Speaker chair.

No one knew what Rep. Al Green was shouting.

Hey Zelenskyy, even representative Al Green wore his best suit and tie to come scream at the president.

I'm so old I can remember when trying to disrupt an official proceeding of Congress was considered bad form, even criminal.

We've seen nothing like this - since Rep Jamaal Bowman pulled the fire alarm.

One more I'm so old, I'm so old I remember when Democrats wanted to be the adult in the room.

'Dems caught in the 80/20 loop' .  The wider internet reading the forum.

80/20 defined by me means if you brought greater focus and scrutiny to an issue you could get support that approaches 80/20.

Trump did that with the border, really Democrats did. Late term abortion, take a closer look and tell us there's no life in there. Crime, at least 80% oppose it. Prosperity, at least 80% favor it. And so on.  Only girls in girls sports. Only girls in girls locker rooms.

On the other side of it, opposition to making America great again, that's got potential to fall to 20%.

We should only be arguing about how to make America great again.

Democrat analyst Mark Penn spells it out
« Reply #2273 on: March 21, 2025, 05:19:39 AM »
Democrats are facing the worst ratings in decades in my polls and others, dropping to as low as 29% favorability in the CNN poll, down from 62%  in 2008. The reasons are pretty clear — after the 2024 election, voters reevaluated the job that President Joe Biden did and began scratching their heads at the actions and positions of Democrats in Congress. Unless there is a major reset, I expect they will have an unexpected wipeout in next year's midterm elections.

Back in the late 90s, Democrats stood for a balanced budget, expanded health care benefits, tough immigration policies, and smaller government. Bill Clinton declared "the era of big government is over." Boy was he wrong.

Step by step, Democrats drifted from these policies that produced near 75% approval ratings for Clinton. Tax and spend came back in the Obama years as tax rates went up and Obamacare kicked in, and he moved decisively to the left in the last two years of his presidency.

The groundwork for DEI was laid with the attacks on the police and calling out other institutions as racist. Climate change moved up to the top of the agenda as pipelines were shut down and regulations were issued to slow energy producers and the idea took root that climate change, not ISIS, was the biggest "existential" threat we faced.

How do you fight it?

The emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement and the election of Donald Trump pushed Democrats further to the left on cultural and economic issues as the chief goal of the party was to lay down resistance to Trump and everything  he stood for. The point was to rip it all down and prevent him from shifting away from the Obama policies.

This culminated in the surprise nomination of Joe Biden even after losing Iowa and New Hampshire. He struck a grand bargain with the left so he could go into the election with a united Democratic Party. After his election, he seemed to abandon virtually every position he ever took in his over 50 years as a moderate senator.

Biden not only stopped construction of the Trump border wall but also opened the border, flooding the country with millions of new migrants. He backed censorship of online speech and aided the COVID coverup of the virus’s origins.

He ordered DEI to be a part of every aspect of government; sided with the trans gender movement. He ballooned the deficit with huge pandemic spending ever after the crisis had passed and the Inflation Reduction Act was a multi-trillion-dollar climate change bill.

He went from the author of the crime bill to the signer of thousands of pardons to criminals.

As president, Biden furiously appointed left-wing judges and made left-oriented appointments to the agencies.

On foreign policy, he backed Ukraine but held them back. And the president backed Israel but restrained them and increasingly pulled back from full support to try to please the left which has become anti-Israel.

By the time he departed the Oval Office, the left, and a set of extreme policies, had remade the Democratic Party from a working-class and middle-class party to a coalition of elites and Black voters. Those making over $100,000 a year and college-educated voters backed Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024, as well as 86% of Black voters. But those making between $30,000 and $100, 000 a year now voted for Trump. And Hispanic voters made a major move in 2024, shifting by about 20 points into the Republican column as they continue to grow as an even larger share of the electorate than Black voters. Their Democratic margin shrunk from 23 points to 4 points.

Now after the 2024 election, voters have basically taken a look back and Joe Biden’s ratings and that of the Democratic Party have tumbled as they see a weak leader who let the left run his administration and drive massive spending that resulted in crushing inflation and massive deficits, deliberately left the border open that could easily have been closed, and took the country in uncharted cultural directions.

The result is a Democratic Party in ruins which will have to wait for the next Bill Clinton to come along and reset it again and return it to its common sense, middle-class roots. Otherwise, the new Republican Party is positioned to deepen its support with these lapsed Democratic voters.

Liberals accepted 'moderate', 'new Democrat' Bill Clinton because they lost 5 of the last 6 Presidential contests over a 24 year period.

Right now they have lost 2 of the last 3 over a 9 year period.

If history is the guide, they must suffer through the rest of Trump's second term and lose 3 more Presidential races before they will be sick of losing, silence their AOCs and agree to moderate.

Rahm Emanuel and Josh the Shapiro are already sounding like they are middle (though we know they are both hard core crats - as was Clinton)

Right.  And instead their biggest mouths are way to the LEFT.  Instead of throwing out the commies , the scream louder and louder.  Instead of coming with real rational policies that will truly fix our giant problems they scream fascist, nazi, dictator, authoritarian, constitutional crises, threat to democracy, tax cuts for the rich, persecution of gays and blacks, and of course hitler.

Klein: "At some point, we gotta be upset about this."

Democrats have a product problem, not just message or messenger problem
« Reply #2291 on: April 01, 2025, 06:22:38 AM »
I'm enjoying the analysis of where Democrats went wrong, this one from a republican consultant Alex Castellanos on X writing with VDH-like clarity. I hate to say it but the only thing that could revive Democrats right now is Republican failure. Don't give them that.
---------------------

"I hope you will let me offer a few thoughts on the current state of the Democratic Party.  The breaking news?  It’s much worse than Democrats think."

Let Them Eat Woke
By Alex Castellanos

If you have ever been desperate and adrift, you understand the Democratic Party’s frustration.

One day, James Carville tells his party to do nothing and let President Trump destroy himself. Another, the Montgomery Burns of American politics, Senator Chuck Schumer, advises a strategy of sustained resistance, rallying his troops to “make Donald Trump the quickest lame duck in history.” The old Senate Minority Leader feeds his angry, cannibalistic followers in hope they won’t eat him.

Some Democrats protest their party has been too woke. Others, not woke enough. Pete Buttigieg, a man not often confused with a lumberjack, swaps “darn” and “shucks” for saltier words to demonstrate his party’s determination.  The Democrats’ new flag may flaunt a manly spittoon, but still, it’s rainbow-colored.  They thrash about like sinking swimmers, afraid they are going down for the last time, grasping for anything that might float them to the surface.

Here is a bit of advice from a swimmer who, on occasion, has nearly slept with the fishes:  No political issue or strategy will save you.  Your problems extend far beyond politics.

You are dying of old age.

Democrats, your party has a product problem, not a marketing problem. Don’t look around.  Look in the mirror.  Your problem is staring back.

You’ve lost the ability to govern your country. That’s why your party expired in 2024 with Kamala Harris.

That election was not a changing of the guard, it was the end of an era. The organizing principles that have defined the Democratic Party since the 1930s are now exhausted and near the grave.

Once, the modern Democratic Party had a governing philosophy.  Democrats had a set of beliefs about how government should function, its purpose, and its relationship with its citizens.  They had a system through which they could productively exercise authority.

They could make government work.

In response to the Great Depression, FDR led our nation into a new era.  He created big government to pull the country out of a sinkhole.  The “public sector,” oddly detached from the actual public, grew through WWII, prospered with the post-war boom, and swelled again with Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society.”

The Keynesian idea that government should manage the economy—and everything it touched—was eventually embraced by establishment Republicans.  It held that Washington’s nobility should provide and enforce the solutions to all human problems.  So, from Nixon through Obama and Biden, the power of the collective state ballooned.  And a naive America cheered.

Washington’s prelates told us the hard work of building a better society did not have to be done by its citizens.  They promised, “Less responsibility for you!” and “More free stuff for everybody!”  Fat, happy, and indulging in capitalism’s success, we threw them wads of money and let them control everything.

They constructed a machine, a Fourth Branch of government, The Bureaucracy, mentioned nowhere in the Constitution.

Independent and unaccountable, the Fourth Branch intertwined with others, manufactured NGOs, and engineered a tangle of interconnected assembly lines that turned back on themselves and fed each other.

Our public servants amassed such money and authority that they became our masters. Their creation swelled cancerously as they gorged on the toil of the people. Our rulers became sick with power, and their virtue signaling produced feverish absurdities: Men can be women. Genders are unlimited. Children should be disfigured.  Free speech is violence. Borders are racist. The real victims of crime are the criminals.

And last November, in front of the entire world, to the horror of the Ancien Régime, the cancer they could not stop feeding killed them all.

Above us, Ronald Reagan is smiling.  His jibe that “We’re from the government, and we’re here to help you” was the laugh line at the old Democratic Party’s wake.

The Democratic Party of FDR and the Great Society, or what is left of it, is a ridiculous anachronism.  It’s obsolescence runs deeper than its ideas.  If you don’t think that party fears the future, note its defensiveness as Elon Musk and DOGE assault their corruption.  Democrats tremble at the efficiency of technology, much as elevator operators dread automation. The party’s top-down, aristocratic idea of government is as out-of-date as powdered wigs.

President Trump is performing brilliantly.  To call what Trump and Musk are doing ‘downsizing’ is to miss the point.  We’re witnessing a fundamental transformation at a level not seen since Franklin Roosevelt: the rebirth of our government as a leaner, more democratic and compassionate servant, in tune with the times ahead.

In this new “Golden Age,” Americans will be freer.  We will no longer be sheep, lorded over by an old kleptocracy of shepherds.  In this season of our history, if we have the will to stay the course, we can take back our borders, our schools, and our economy. We can reclaim our government, our safety, and our speech.

This leads to the only advice I can offer the Trump Administration:  Close the door on a Democratic comeback in the approaching off-year elections.  Explain that the Democrats are yesterday, and it is President Trump who is leading us into the future.  Democrats are old.  Republicans are new.  In our optimistic nation, freedom is always a new idea, and ‘new’ is our most powerful word.

That’s my suggestion:  Paint the bigger picture.  Brand our flailing, desperate opponents ‘#YesterdaysDemocrats.’  Bury them where they stand—in the past.
